OpenAI's new ChatGPT Images 2.6 update, announced November 4, 2026, lets anyone create animated GIF images right inside ChatGPT. You describe what you want in plain words, or upload a photo you already have, and the AI turns it into a short looping animation. For a small business, that turns hours of design work into a few minutes of typing.

What Is ChatGPT Images 2.6?

ChatGPT Images 2.6 is the newest version of OpenAI's AI image generator, rolling out now on the web, desktop and mobile apps to every subscription tier, including the free plan. Besides GIF animations, the update adds saved reference photos you can reuse in any chat with an @ mention, editable SVG vector graphics for logos and icons, and a markup tool that lets you draw directly on an image to show the AI exactly what to change. OpenAI says the update also generates images about 50 percent faster than the previous version.

Why Animated GIFs Matter for Your Business

Short animations stop the scroll. A product photo that rotates, a menu special that sizzles, or a service that shows itself in motion does what a static image cannot, and it works in emails, text messages and social feeds alike. Miami and South Florida businesses already live on visual marketing, from Brickell real estate tours to Ocean Drive restaurant promos, and an AI GIF generator puts that kind of content within reach of any budget.

You do not need design skills, because the feature works like a conversation. You can ask ChatGPT to make an animation loop, slow it down, or change one element, the same way you ask it to rewrite a sentence. You can even animate a photo you already own. One limit to know: ChatGPT cannot edit a GIF you upload from somewhere else.

Two New Models for Developers

Developers building AI into their own apps get two new models, GPT-Image-2.6 Sunburst and GPT-Image-2.6 Flare. Sunburst is tuned for detailed images and consistent results across repeated edits, while Flare is built for speed and quick prototyping, generating a draft in as little as six seconds. A new complexity setting controls how much planning the AI does before it renders, separate from the quality level, so a simple edit no longer pays the cost of a complex composition.

How to Try It Today

GIF creation is rolling out gradually, so not every account has it yet, but the rest of Images 2.6 is live now for most users. Open the ChatGPT app, ask for an image, and say you want it animated. If the animation option has not reached your account, it should arrive soon, and it is included in existing subscriptions, so there is nothing extra to buy.
